Celebrating Chinese New Year saw the residents of Holmwood Aged Care welcoming in the year of the Pig (Boar) by enjoying a banquet! There were dumplings, dim sims, steamed pork buns and spring rolls.
In Chinese culture red is the traditional colour because it is said to bring good luck and happiness. This could only mean that the theme for our celebration was vibrant red! Residents helped with all our decorations by making red paper lanterns to be hung around our home.
Each resident received a handmade red envelope, embellished with Chinese symbols of wealth, health and prosperity in hope to bring them luck and happiness for the New Year. Traditionally filled with a gift of money, residents received gold chocolate coins in their envelopes, and a few received lucky metal coins as keepsakes of the event.
Celebrating Chinese New Year was a new experience for many residents at Holmwood Aged Care. Everyone loved learning about Chinese horoscopes and enjoying fortune cookies and sharing their fortunes!
Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
