As the autumn leaves settled across Healesville, May brought a heart-warming mix of celebration, learning and togetherness here at Holmwood Aged Care.
A Warm Welcome to Peter
We kicked off the month with a delightful morning tea to welcome Peter, our new Head Chef and Housekeeping Supervisor. With years of experience in aged care and hospital settings, Peter has hit the ground running, working closely with our residents to continue enhancing our already much-loved dining experience.
Celebrating Excellence
Congratulations went to Gurpreet, our Personal Care Worker, who was named April’s Employee of the Month. Her dedication and compassion are a shining example of the care we’re proud to offer.
Adventures and Outings
Residents made the most of the autumn sunshine with not one, but two memorable trips. Our first adventure took us into the heart of Healesville for lunch at the local RSL. Smiles were plenty and the meals were delicious – with Fish and Chips, Chicken Parma and Roast of the Day all on offer. Later in the month, we soaked in the golden colours of the Yarra Valley on a scenic picnic outing. Residents relished both the views and the food – a perfect autumn day enjoyed by all.
A High Tea Fit for Queens
In celebration of Mother’s Day, our beloved ladies were treated to a day of pure indulgence. From a beautifully set High Tea with sweet pastries and cucumber sandwiches to pampering spa sessions complete with aromatherapy, facials and foot spas – it was a day of laughter, luxury and love.
Birthday Cheers All Around
We marked many special birthdays this May. Warm wishes went out to Jean, Brigitte (Gitty), Norbert, Pauline, Bev, Jan and Bill – each celebrated with heartfelt messages and, of course, cake!
Spotlight on Our Nursing Team
International Nurses Day was a meaningful occasion, where we celebrated the professionalism and care of our nursing team. Residents shared touching video messages thanking our nurses, while an afternoon tea with decorated cupcakes added a sweet note to a deeply appreciated day.
Learning to Exceed
Behind the scenes, our staff have been diving into education sessions in preparation for the new Strengthened Quality Aged Care Standards, coming into effect this November. With a bit of friendly competition – and chocolate incentives! – our team is not only ready to meet the standards, but determined to exceed them.
Fashion & Fun
A special visit from some furry friends had us all smiling as our four-legged guests strutted their stuff in a doggy fashion show. The colourful outfits and playful energy added a fun twist to our month.
Dining Room Delights
Our dining rooms remained a hive of activity throughout May. Residents enjoyed comforting, freshly cooked meals like Chicken and Vegetable Stir-fry and classic Fish and Chips – all shared over good conversation in beautifully set surroundings. And for those with a sweet tooth, almond cake with warm custard proved that it’s never too cold for dessert!
