Holmwood Aged Care December Community Celebrations Brings Connection

December was a month of heartfelt celebrations, generous giving, and vibrant community spirit at Holmwood Aged Care. From festive gatherings to meaningful charitable contributions, our community came together to create lasting memories and spread Christmas cheer throughout the month.

The highlight of our Holmwood Aged Care December community celebrations was undoubtedly the Annual Resident and Staff Christmas Party. Under perfect weather, residents and team members enjoyed a magnificent feast featuring seafood cocktails, mixed bruschettas, roast pork, roast turkey, roast cauliflower, stuffed pumpkins, five delicious salads, and an array of desserts including berry cheesecake, pavlova, fresh fruit, and Chef Shannon's secret recipe Christmas pudding with warm custard. Live music from Robby kept everyone singing along to Christmas carols and old favourites, creating an atmosphere of pure joy.

Our community spirit extended well beyond our walls this December. The food donation drive for struggling families, organised through St Vincent de Paul, was an overwhelming success. Staff, visitors, and a nearby business contributed generously, with some thoughtful donors even remembering family pets. The substantial donation was delivered to families in need, bringing a bit of joy to many during what can be a financially and emotionally challenging time of year.

We were touched by a special delivery from Healesville Primary School's Gift Giving Tree, with School Captains Matilda and Macey, alongside Principal Tracey, presenting thoughtful gifts from generous students and families. These moments of intergenerational connection embody the true spirit of Christmas.

The community fundraising raffle proved incredibly successful, raising over $300 towards programmes and events. Congratulations to our winners: John C (first prize, who kindly donated his gift to the team), Jean G (second prize), and team member Shannon (third prize).

Recognition and celebration of our team remained important throughout December. Harry, our RN team member, was named December Employee of the Month following nominations from visitors, families, and colleagues alike. Families and visitors also showed their appreciation through thoughtful treats for the team, gestures that meant so much to our staff.

December's activities kept residents engaged and entertained. Silly season games brought out both cooperative and competitive spirits, whilst a pub lunch outing with pokies provided a perfect Thursday afternoon. We also welcomed some adorable visitors when cute chicks stopped by with their mum, bringing smiles all round.

Birthday celebrations added to the month's festivities, with Dawn, Ton, Maureen, and George all marking their special days surrounded by warm wishes from the Holmwood community.

As we bid farewell to December and welcomed the new year with a Happy Hour celebration, complete with drinks and good cheer, we reflected on a month that truly showcased what makes Holmwood Aged Care special: connection, compassion, and community.
