May 2026: dancing, milestones, and new beginnings at Holmwood Aged Care
May 2026 was one of those months at Holmwood Aged Care that had a little bit of everything — big celebrations, heartfelt farewells, warm welcomes, and more than a few opportunities to find your dancing shoes.
The month opened with not one but two memorable evenings on the dance floor. Our Rock and Roll Night with the Cheek-to-Cheek Duo and dancers from Shine Dancing was simply sensational. Amazing energy, amazing fun, and exactly the kind of evening that our residents talk about for weeks afterwards. Our Wednesday sessions with Ovarn continued to pack the same punch — residents keep turning up ready to move, and we are starting to think we need a new name for what was once called workout Wednesdays.
May brought some lovely birthday celebrations too. We wished Jan and Jean the happiest of days, and we were honoured to mark the 95th birthday of the wonderful Marie, who enjoyed afternoon tea surrounded by her beloved family.
International Nurses Day was celebrated with a carvery lunch shared by residents and staff together — a true community occasion filled with laughter, stories, and real gratitude. Lemon meringue pie and apple rhubarb crumble made sure the afternoon finished on a very sweet note. To our incredible nursing team: thank you for the compassion, dedication, and kindness you bring to Holmwood Aged Care every single day.
Mother’s Day was a time to honour the many forms motherhood takes in our community. Mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mums, aunties, carers, and mentors — all those who nurture and guide with love were celebrated on the day. We hope every one of them felt truly seen.
May also saw us recognise our Employee of the Month, with the wonderful Denise receiving the award. Nominated by residents, coworkers, and visitors alike, Denise has been a runner-up on more than one occasion and nobody could have been more deserving. Congratulations, Denise.
The month also brought a significant change to our lifestyle team. After ten years of dedication — and a legacy of special events including Rock and Roll Night, Disco Night, and Casino Royale that our residents love — our Lifestyle Coordinator Stacey said her goodbyes. We are so grateful for everything she gave to this community, and we hope she knows just how much she will be missed.
Stepping into the role is Kellie, who has been part of our care team at Holmwood for nearly a year. Kellie is a passionate advocate for the residents in her care, with a genuine curiosity about their stories and a desire to build programs that reflect their skills and interests. We are very much looking forward to seeing what she brings to the role. Please make her welcome.
What a month it was. We are so proud of this community and everyone in it.
